St. Christopher’s Hospice in London Hosting Workshop

This May, St. Christopher’s Hospice in London invited Michael Verde to present on the subject of “Bridging the Dis-Ease of Social Isolation: Empathic Care of the Chronically Ill and Cognitively Impaired.” The one-day workshop for caregivers explored theories of empathic communication, as well as verbal and non-verbal ways of “being with” people with cognitive impairment. Participants were introduced to theories of empathic communication, and how the fundamentals of those theories can be translated into emotionally skillful ways of participating in the healing of emotional isolation that is the dis-ease of the myriads of kinds of dementia.
