Since 1963, Naomi Feil, considered by many to be the world’s authority on communicating with people with dementia, has worked with people who she refers to as the disoriented old-old. Disappointed with the ineffectiveness of the then-standard practice of reality orientation, she pursued a new path, trusting her education in social work, her lifelong reading in depth psychology, and her own profound, empathic intuitiveness to lead her to a better way of connecting with elderly people with significant cognitive impairment. Over time, she synthesized her personal experiences and research into what came to be known around the world as Validation Therapy.
Michael’s presentation of The Validation Breakthrough will introduce the core theoretical commitments and practical methods of Validation. The heart of the presentation, however, will explore Validation as an art, skill, discipline, and attitude of self-transcending existential healing.
